Kodi is a player and not a server, there is a big difference there. I have looked through my file properties at the files that play and dont play and all files from plex file info state 24p but like i say avi files do not play i have large mkv videos mp4 all these play flawless. With the Synology software, it is able to use any Hardware Acceleration that is available on your NAS, PMS on the other hand, does not use Hardware Acceleration on any device or platform and that can be the difference between the two software packages.

You don’t state what NAS you have, but if it is a DS412+, then your NAS is only capable of transcoding low bitrate 720p video when using Plex and anything above that will pause and stutter badly. Not many players can handle true 24 frames per second playback and that can be enough to cause the video to stutter or to appear ‘jerky’ during playback.įor such files, you can use the ‘optimise’ function in Plex and that will allow you to watch the video at least.
The most likely reason that this particular video needs to be transcoded is because of the Video Frame Rate 24p. Info of one of avi files not playing below advice on cause of problem would be thankfull. Hi, i also have problem with server not powerfull enough to convert video but only happens with avi filesĪll other formats work fine, videos all work good using synology video station so can only guess that plex is the problem i have set trancoding to original ,does this mean there should be no need to convert ?
